Dress Code of SY2010-2011 remains the same as previous years.  There will be strict enforcement of all aspects of the dress code.  Be sure you choose the correct items for wear each school day.   

***We have added General Guidelines for student dress when students are allowed to dress outside the constraints of the uniform this also includes clarification for student athletes.

UNIFORM & DRESS CODE
GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS
Mandatory uniforms will be implemented for grades 7-12.  Uniforms are to be worn on all field trips and at all school-sponsored events except athletics and dances.  Students who move into the District shall be in compliance with the mandatory uniform specifications within five (5) school days of enrollment.  The principal may determine appropriate occasions during the school year in which students will be given the opportunity to wear other attire or spirit shirts in adherence with the school dress code.

UNIFORM SPECIFICATIONS

PANTS, SHORTS, AND SKIRTS
Female student may wear pants, shorts, skorts, skirts, and jumpers.  All of these shall be hemmed and shall not be more than three (3) inches above the top of the knee (including PE).
Male student may wear pants and shorts. All of these shall be hemmed and shall not be more than three (3) inches above the top of the knee (including PE).
Shall fit properly at the natural waistline and in length. (No Slacking)
Over-sized pant and shorts are not permissible (including PE).
Shall not be overalls or have bellbottoms
Shall be worn with belts of appropriate length, if belt loops are included
Shall not be made of denim or jean fabrics including Carhartt products
Shall not have cuts, splits, or holes
Pants, shorts, and skirts shall be Khaki or Navy
Shall not have more than 4 pockets
No jogging, sweat, or wind pants allowed
SHIRTS
Must be a Solid White, or Solid Red collar shirt. 
Low-neck lines are not permissible.
Must be long enough to stay tucked inside clothes properly (No midriff showing)
Must have sleeves (can be long or short)
Must not have cuts, splits, or holes
THS t-shirts (sports, organization, or club shirts are only allowed on to be worn on Fridays
Hooded shirts are not allowed on campus
Solid White Undergarments are permissible.
No jersey’s or THS athletic jerseys / uniform tops are allowed to be worn.
PULLOVERS AND SWEATSHIRTS
Sweatshirts are not required to be tucked inside clothes
Sweatshirts and sweaters shall not be oversized
White or Red collared shirt must be worn under all pullovers, sweatshirts, and scrubs
Hooded sweatshirts are not allowed on campus
Pullover and sweatshirt colors must be solid Navy, solid White, solid Red or solid Khaki
COATS/JACKETS
Must not have alcoholic, fraternity, sorority, or any other inappropriate logos or lettering as deemed by the principal
May be any color but must be removed upon entering the school and placed in a locker or designated area before homeroom and remain there until after the dismissal bell
Shall not be oversized
Students may wear school letter jackets
HATS/CAPS
Hats, caps, visors, do-rags, etc. are not allowed on campus inside or outside the school building during the day or at after school activities
No headbands can be worn on campus (arms, legs, etc.)
MISCELLANEOUS
All book bags, or oversized purses must be placed in a locker or designated area before homeroom and remain there until after the dismissal bell
No body piercing other than ears
Grills (gold teeth coverings) cannot be worn on campus
No dark glasses or sunglasses allowed on campus
SHOES, SOCKS, & BELTS
Belts must be Solid Black, Solid Brown, or Solid Navy
No oversized belt buckles
No flip-flops can be worn.  Shoes must be laced and strapped.
Socks/stockings/tights shall be Solid Black, Solid Brown, or  Solid White
LOGOS / GRAPHICS
Logos and labels shall be small and unobtrusive
Logos, graphics, and labels on undergarments which show through the outer clothing are prohibited
Students in violation of the dress code will be asked to call home immediately for proper clothing to be brought. In cases where appropriate clothing cannot be
obtained, the student will be referred to In-School-Isolation for the remainder of the day.

Administrators will make the final decision on the appropriateness of a student’s dress.  (Appropriate refers to clothing that covers the body sufficiently as to not bring undue attention of others.)

Student Athlete Dress for Game Day
Student athletes have two options for dress on days of athletic competition:
1) School uniform conforming to policy
2) Athletes may also be required by their coaches to wear the following:
BoysGirls
Ties (required)Dresses
Slacks     Pant suits
Dress shirt     Skirts (appropriate length)

General Dress Guidelines for Student Attire
1) Headgear including, but not limited to hats, caps, headbands, sweatbands, bandanas, visors, do rags, hoods, and sunglasses, must be removed upon entering the school building and shall be properly stored.
2) Hair must be clean, combed, and well-groomed. Hair must not be in the eyes of the student or impair his/her vision. Appropriate safety precautions must be observed in all classes. If long hair is a safety hazard, students will receive directions from the teacher/instructor. Eye protection may be required in some classes.  Whenever a student’s hairstyle becomes a disruptive issue, the principal will address the problem on an individual basis. Etchings in the hair are unacceptable.
3) Facial hair must be well-groomed.
4) Insignias, buttons, and clothing that are suggestive (alcoholic beverages, tobacco, vulgarity, nudity, drug related, innuendo, etc.) are not permitted.
5) Clothing or other items that may inflame racial tension, incite a significant group of students in the student body, and/or depict any form of hatred/disrespect of others shall not be worn.
6) Any hairstyle, clothing or pattern of dress or other items that identify a student as being a member of a gang, or could be perceived as a threat or represent a hate or subversive organization are prohibited.
7) Bracelets or belts with spikes or studs are not allowed. Chains will not be allowed to connect wallets to clothing.
8) No piercing, other than the ear, is acceptable. Jewelry may not be worn by any student when safety factors are an issue. Facial piercings to the nose, eyebrows, tongue or any other part of the body will not be allowed.  Band-aids cannot be worn to conceal unauthorized jewelry, and spacers, plugs, etc. used to keep pierced holes open also are not allowed.
9) Pants and other articles of clothing must be clean, with no holes. Pants must be worn at the natural waistline.
10) Revealing garments may not be worn at any time. This type of garment shall include, but not be limited to, short-shorts or cut-off shorts, halters, midriffs (tops that show the midriff), tank tops (tops with less than 1 ½” straps), spaghetti straps, string straps, one shoulder strap, outfits with no back, see-through clothing, or tops with low necklines.
11) Students must wear clothing in the manner for which it is designed. Pants/jeans must fit properly and be worn to fit at the waistline with the length no longer than mid-shoe level.
12) Over-sized, baggy clothing is prohibited (including shirts).
13) Students must wear proper undergarments.
14) The length of all articles of clothing, as well as slits in articles of clothing, must be appropriate for school wear and in no instance shorter than 3” above the top of the knee. The principal/designee will determine compliance.
15) Shoes must be worn at all times, and shoes designed to be laced must be laced and tied.
16) Baggy/trench coats may not be worn inside any school building.
17) Shoes may not contain any type of wheel or roller blades.

Your ID Badge will be a REQUIRED part of your uniform at THS once it has been issued.  Failure to have it on and visible will result in the same penalty as any other dress code violation.
